Duo who escaped from Sibu quarantine centre arrested within two hours

SIBU: Two Covid-19 patients who fled from the low-risk Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centre at the Sri Aman Indoor Stadium were arrested within two hours of the escape on Thursday (Aug 12).

Sri Aman OCPD Deputy Supt Bingkok John said police launched “Op Kesan” to track down the two patients, both Indonesians aged 18 and 19, once it received a report of their escape at 9.40am.

“Our patrol team found them at Kampung Stumbin together with a local teenager at 11.10am,” he said.

DSP Bingkok said the duo was sent back to the Health Ministry for further action, while the local teenager, a boy, was sent to a quarantine centre.

The case is being investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code and Section 22(b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
