KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s top golfer Gavin Kyle Green kicked off his third season on European Tour with a decent tied-15th finish at the South African Open.
The 26-year-old Gavin closed with a three-under 68 to finish on 10-under 274 at the Randpark Golf Club in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Gavin, who carded 68,67 and 71 in the first three rounds, finished in a seven-way tie for 15th in the 240-man tournament won by home player Branden Grace on 21-under.
Gavin’s effort netted him �14,615 (RM66,100). The good outing is set to fire Gavin up ahead of the next three tournaments, starting with the prestigious Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship
The US$7mil (RM28.46), which begins on Thursday, stars world No. 1 Brooks Koepka of the United States. After Abu Dhabi, Gavin will also compete in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic (Jan 23-26) and Saudi International (Jan 30-Feb 2).
